Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about Nepal trekking permits and documentation.

Can I get permits on arrival?

ACAP and TIMS permits can be obtained on arrival in Kathmandu or Pokhara. However, restricted area permits must be obtained in advance through licensed agencies.

How long does permit processing take?

Standard permits (ACAP, TIMS) can be processed same day. Restricted area permits may take 1-3 days depending on the area and season.

What if I lose my permit during the trek?

Report to the nearest police station immediately and contact your trekking agency. Replacement permits can be issued but may cause delays.

Are permits refundable?

Generally, permits are non-refundable once issued. However, in exceptional circumstances, partial refunds may be possible through the issuing authority.

Do children need separate permits?

Yes, all trekkers regardless of age need individual permits. However, children under 10 may get discounted rates for some permits.

Can I extend my permit duration?

ACAP permits don't have time limits within the conservation area. TIMS cards and restricted area permits can sometimes be extended at local offices with additional fees.
